Strike that Match!

Now that summer is finally here (at least I hope it is!), it's time to think about vacations.  Weekends at the lake, visits to family and friends, theme parks and all that other fun stuff.  It doesn't seem that summer is complete without at least one campfire.

Building a campfire isn’t as easy as you would think it would be.  There are a few basics when lighting a campfire.  First and foremost, you must have a site.  Secondly, you must collect your tinder, kindling and fuel wood.  Last – and certainly not least! – you must have the initial flame that lights your fire.

The first step is to place your tinder on the ground.  Your next step is to put a few pieces of kindling wood around the tinder in the form of a teepee.  After your teepee is secure, you add the fuel wood.  Needless-to-say, the last step is to strike the match to light your fire.  If you follow these steps and use quality wood, you will have a fast flame.

Now imagine this campfire represents your journey to Go To Health.  Like finding a site where to build your fire, you must find your support group.  After considering your personal or work schedule, you have to find a “site” that works for you.  Like the site for your campfire has to be convenient, this “site” should be convenient as well.  If it’s not, you will be unable to “build your fire.”

Once you determine what “site” works for you, you will collect your kindling wood.  The kindling wood is your support network.  This could be your weight loss support group, family, friends, co-workers, etc.  It’s the people that will support your in your efforts.  Your “kindling wood” should share the same goals that you do.  They should share in your successes, but – more importantly – they should be there when you are struggling and facing challenges.

Once you have all the “kindling” you need, you add the fuel wood.  These are the largest logs on your campfire.  Let’s imagine that we add a log to our teepee for exercise and another for journaling.  We also need to add a log for water and portion control or calorie counting.

Now that we’ve built the perfect teepee for our “fire”, we are ready to light the fire.  You may have selected the ideal site.  You could have built the best teepee for your fire that man has ever seen.  You can have the best, driest kindling wood that money can buy.  Your logs can be dry wood and the best burning logs that can be found in the forest.

The flame that will burn in your campfire represents your weight loss and your journey to Go To Health.  However, none of the aforementioned matters in the least if we do not have the initial flame to light the campfire.  The “site”, the “kindling” and the “logs” don’t make a world of difference if we don’t strike a match.  The match is your attitude.  Without the right “match”, you will not have a fire.  YOU have the “match!”  Are you ready to “strike the match” to “light your fire?”
