Before 278 Pounds!

Before.JPG

I've struggled with weight all my life.  All through school I was bothered by the fact that I was overweight and it greatly impacted my high school years.  I never had a date nor went to any dances.  I even missed my senior prom.  I also didn't have very many friends.  Although I tried to be "the life of the party", I was always crying on the inside.  There was a point in my life when I reached a crossroads.  I had two choices.  Accept my life as it was or make changes.  I opted to make a change and reach my dream of weight loss and ultimately long term weight loss maintenance.

I tried several drastic fad diets and achieved weight loss success with them - the Cambridge diet, Cabbage Soup diet, diuretics and laxatives, binging and purging, very low calorie diets, the Atkins diet.  While they brought me short-term weight loss, I never achieved long term weight maintenance.

After 145 Pounds!

I did not get serious about losing weight until I joined TOPS (Take off Pounds Sensibly) ® in January of 2001.  I weighed 278 pounds, which was the most I had ever weighed in my life.  The only reason I did that was because I was contemplating weight loss surgery.  I was absolutely terrified of undergoing major surgery and anesthesia.  Something just clicked this time.

I lost 140 pounds and got to goal in November of 2003.  I've raised my goal since then by 9 pounds, and my goal is currently 147 pounds.  For those that are curious, I'm 5' 5" tall.  There's a small photo gallery of before, during and after pictures that depict my journey.  It's a struggle to maintain my weight loss, but it was more of a struggle being morbidly obese.  And it's definitely worth all the effort that I put into it.  I've never been happier.
